Pancakes; forever, as long as I live, I will always think pancakes when I think of Gili T. Starchy, runny, flavorless pancakes with condensed chocolate milk and cinnamon.
Gili T is a very small island off the coast of Lombok in Indonesia. V, N, and I went to Gili T for two days to enjoy the beautiful beaches and fantastic snorkeling; neither disappointed. We took a two hour ferry from Bali to Gili where we had a group (pod? I speak good English) of Dolphins join us for part of the ride… It was amazing! An uncountable amount of Dolphins were swimming next to the boat, some jumping not five feet from my window. After our amazing journey, we disembarked to hordes of local men calling and flirting with us “Room?” “I have cheap room” “ohh beautiful butterfly, I give free massage”. Thankfully the Dolphins put me in a good mood and I didn’t bite their heads off:)
( interestingly enough the last comment exemplifies two experiences unique to Indonesia: the men here are by FAR the flirtiest men I’ve encountered in South East Asia, and the people here love tattoos. Many times some one has complimented my tattoo as I walked down the street)
We walked for what seemed like ages and found ourselves at La Boheme hostel- land of all you can eat pancakes, all day long. The hostel had a good vibe, unlimited pancakes (did I mention the pancakes?), and we decided we would stay despite the slightly higher cost ($11.50 a night).
On Gili we enjoyed some diving (left more to be desired despite the turtles), some snorkeling (really amazing, saw fish bigger than me!), and stomach aches induced by the pancakes we ate for breakfast, lunch, and snacks before buying real food for dinner. The night market was also pretty amazing.
